Title:

Visualization of a Low Cost Composite Shelter in the Virginia Tech CAVE

Background:

In an effort to reduce the world homeless population,  The Daedalus Project, Inc.  is developing a low-cost composite shelter.  This shelter is constructed with injection molded unit panels made from recycled plastics (high density polyethylene, HDPE).  The shelters are designed to provide temporary relief to disaster victims, or a permanent shelter to a homeless person.

Objectives:

The main objects for this project include:

• To display AutoCAD drawings of the shelter in the CAVE to gain a feel for the size and dimensions of the structure
• To display finite element models created in ANSYS in the CAVE to determine if the deflections occurring under loading are at a "comfortable" level.
